Privacy Policy
StreamSense is used by public agencies and the organizations they work with to watch river levels, forecasts and flood impacts. This policy explains what information the service holds, why, and what we do and do not do with it.
Information we hold
- Account information. The name, work email address and role of each person given an account by their organization, and, if they choose to add it, a mobile number for text alerts.
- Alert settings. The alerts a person or their organization sets up: which sites or places are watched, the conditions, and who is notified.
- Sensor and model data. Readings from the organization's stream gauges and the flood models, forecasts and maps built from them, together with public data from national sources (USGS, NOAA/NWS, USACE and others).
- Service records. Logins, actions taken on administrative pages, alert deliveries, and standard web server logs (IP address, browser, time) kept for security and troubleshooting.
- Contact form. What you send us through the contact form on this site, so we can reply.
How it is used
To run the service: showing the map and forecasts, sending the email and text alerts a person has asked for, keeping accounts secure, and supporting the organizations that use it. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Text messages
Text alerts are sent only to people who have added a mobile number to their own StreamSense account and whose organization has included them in an alert that texts. Mobile numbers and consent to receive text messages are not shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts, or remove the mobile number from your account. See the Text Message Terms.
Who it is shared with
Only the service providers that deliver the service on our behalf — cloud hosting (Amazon Web Services) and the email and text-message delivery they provide — and, where the organization has chosen it, the public agencies it forwards gauge readings to. We disclose information when the law requires it.
Retention and security
Account information is kept while the account exists and removed when an administrator deletes it. Gauge readings and model records are kept as the organization's operational record. Website and account traffic is encrypted in transit, and data is stored in the United States. Access to administrative pages requires a login, and actions are recorded.
Your choices
Account holders can change their mobile number and alert settings at any time on their Account and Alerts pages, or ask their organization's administrator. For questions about this policy or your information, use the contact form.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with its effective date.
